Well, it's... [Ardyn trailed off, thinking carefully.] 'Complicated' is a word I find myself using far too often, but it's the simplest way to summarize it.

Picture it as if trying to hold a handful of sand. No matter how one tries, some of it will obviously slip between their fingers. Keeping track of each and every single grain is beyond impossible, and trying to close one's hand around it will only result in more slipping away.

That, in the widest sort of description, is what two thousand years of memories feels like. Regaining what the network stole has only made it more difficult.
